RESTRINGING

Creative Gold offers an in-house restringing service starting at £20. for a 16in unknotted row.
Most non pearl jobs are strung on tigers tail which is a nylon coated wire. This is used on all glass beads and most stone beads, the reason being that beads are always drilled from opposite ends.
In the case of cheap necklaces, the drilled holes often do not meet properly in the center, causing sharp edges that can fray stringing threads.
Pearl beads are normally strung on silk thread. Unknotted and graduated row cost £25. A knotted restringing is very labour intensive and has to be restarted for scratch if a single knot is defective therefore the charge for a row is £65.
Creative Gold stocks a good range of replacement catches and end rings in silver or gold.
All stringing jobs come with a 3 month guarantee.

HOW TO STRING BEADS ON SILK

FIRST CHOOSE A SUITABLE THICKNESS OF SILK IN RELATION TO THE BEADS TO BE STRUNG .YOU SHOULD BE JUST ABLE TO PASS THREE THREADS THROUGH THE HOLE WHEN ATTACHED TO A NEEDLE NEXT MEASURE OUT 2.5 METERS SILK THREAD ON A STRINGING NEEDLE AND TIE OFF.
THEN USING THE NEEDLE PUT ALL THE BEADS ON TO THE SILK THREAD.
TO MAKE THE FIRST END CUT GIMP INTO ¾ INCH PIECES AND USING NEEDLE THREAD GIMP ADDING CLASP OR SPLIT RING ON TO THREAD THEN MAKE A SLIP KNOT FEED THE GIMP AROUND SO THAT IT REACHES THE END OF THE SLIP KNOT UNTIL THEN KEEP BOTH SIDES OF THE KNOT FOLDED OVER WITH YOUR FINGERS INSIDE THE LOOP THEN PULL EVENLY AND TIGHTLY SO THAT THE END LOOP IS FORMED AND MOST OF THE GIMP LOOP HAS DISAPEARED IN TO THE FIRST BEAD.
FOR KNOTTING BETWEEN BEADS PULL DOWN FIRST BEAD TIGHTLY MAKE SURE THREADS ARE EQUAL MAKE A PLAIN KNOT LEAVE OPEN THEN PLACE TWEEZERS AS CLOSE TO BEAD AS POSSIBLE AND THE TWEEZERS SHOULD FOLLOW THE THREAD THAT LEADS FROM THE BEAD SO THAT WHEN THE LOOP IS PULLED CLOSE IT TIGHTENS DOWN ON THE TWEEZERS WHEN IT CAN NO LONGER BE TIGHTENED ON TWEEZERS HOLD NECKLET FROM TWO BEADS BACK AND REMOVE TWEEZERS THEN PUSH THE KNOT UP TO THE BEAD WITH YOUR FINGERNAIL AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE THEN SEPERATE AND PULL APART THREADS TO FINISH TIGHTENING KNOT REPEAT UNTIL ALL BEADS ARE KNOTTED UNTIL YOU GET TO THE LAST THREE BEADS OF THE NECKLET.
THE LAST KNOT IS MADE BETWEEN SECOND AND THIRD BEADS THE THREAD IS PULLED THROUGH THE LAST TWO BEADS UNKNOTTED NOW CUT THE THREAD NEAR THE NEEDLE PULL ONE THREAD BACK THROUGH THE TWO BEADS AND LEAVE TO DANGLE NOW PASS THE SINGLE THREAD WITH THE TWO BEADS AND THE NEEDLE THROUGH THE GIMP AND OTHER PART OF THE CLASP AND THEN THREAD IT THROUGH THE LAST BEAD UNTIL THE THREAD ALSO DANGLES YOU CAN NOW DISPOSE OF THE NEEDLE.
TO FINISH TAKE THE TWO DANGLING THREADS FIRST TIE A PLAIN KNOT THEN A DOUBLE REEF KNOT PULLING TIGHT EACH TIME THE ON THE OPPSITE SIDE TIE A PLAIN KNOT AND THEN MOUNT THE NECKLET ON A MANDRIL USE HYPERDERMIC GLUE TO SEAL THE KNOT THEN SNIP OFF SURPLUS. THIS DONE THE RESTRINGING IS COMPLETE! LEAVE TO HANG ON A MANDRIL OR JUST A HOOK SO THAT THE WEIGHT OF THE BEADS AND GRAVITY WORKS OUT ANY KINKS.
